Step 1: Preheat & Prep
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until combined.
  3. Slowly mix in hot coffee until smooth — the batter will be thin.
  4. Pour evenly into pans.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Step 4: Make Ganache
  1. Heat cream until just steaming (don’t boil).
  2. Pour over chocolate chips. Let sit 2 minutes.
  3. Stir until smooth. Add butter for extra shine if using.
  4. Cool to room temp before using.
Step 5: Assemble
  1. Level cakes if needed. Place one layer on a serving plate.
  2. Spread a thick layer of espresso buttercream.
  3. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides.
  4. Pour ganache gently over the top and let it drip down the sides.
