Ingredients

For the Dough
  • Pie crust dough
  • All-purpose flour for dusting
  • Strawberry Filling
  • 2 cups strawberries very finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons tapioca starch or corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon orange juice
Chocolate Filling
  • Chocolate hazelnut spread
For Assembly
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Sanding sugar
For Decoration
  • ½ cup confectioner’s sugar

Equipment

  • Rolling Pin
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Pastry brush
  • Cooling rack
  • Wooden sticks (for pie pops)

Method

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a small saucepan, combine the finely chopped strawberries, sugar, tapioca starch, and orange juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and becomes glossy. Remove from heat and allow it to cool completely.
Step 3: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the pie crust dough to about ⅛-inch thickness.
Step 4: Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut an even number of heart shapes from the dough.
Step 5: Place half of the heart shapes onto the prepared baking sheets. Spoon a small amount of strawberry filling onto some hearts and a small amount of chocolate spread onto others, keeping the filling centered and avoiding the edges.
Step 6: If making pie pops, gently press a wooden stick into the center of each filled heart, stopping before it reaches the edge.
Step 7: Place the remaining heart-shaped dough pieces on top of the filled ones. Press the edges gently with your fingers or a fork to seal completely.
Step 8: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of the pies lightly with the egg wash.
Step 9: Sprinkle sanding sugar evenly over the tops for sparkle and texture.
Step 10: Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pies are golden brown and puffed.
Step 11: Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack. Allow the pies to cool completely.
Step 12: Once cooled, dust lightly with confectioner’s sugar for a decorative finish before serving.

                          Notes

                          🧊 Storage & Reheating
Store mini pies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
Refrigerate for up to 4 days for longer freshness.
Reheat briefly in the oven at low temperature to restore crispness.
Pie pops should be stored flat to avoid breaking the sticks.
                          🥄 Variations
Use mixed berries instead of strawberries for a different fruity filling.
Add a pinch of cinnamon to the strawberry filling for warmth.
Drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled pies for extra decoration.
Create a marbled look by combining small amounts of both fillings in one pie.
